The Cannon Beach Historical Society (CBHS) was organized for the purpose of preserving the history of Cannon Beach by seeking, collecting, and protecting historical memorabilia of all kinds, by recording oral histories, and by making these materials available to the public whenever possible. With almost 500 members, CBHS offers the gift of history to the entire community. |

A Cannon Beach Historical Society had been founded in 1969, but soon languished. The Society was revived in 1983; it again quickly expired. In 1988 a group of former members and others mounted a first-class exhibit on the history of Cannon Beach in the Clatsop County Historical Society Heritage Museum in Astoria. In 1990 the Cannon Beach Historical Society was revived once again – but this time it was placed on firm ground, unlike the shifting sands into which it had disappeared in the past. The Society was organized for the purpose of preserving the history of Cannon Beach by seeking, collecting, and protecting historical memorabilia of all kinds, by recording oral histories, by making these materials available to the public whenever possible, and by working toward acquiring a museum for storing and displaying such materials. The Society’s holdings include oral histories on audio and videotapes, photographs, newspaper files and clippings, periodicals, manuscripts, and artifacts.
